I don’t think I am alone in thinking that 2019 has gone in the blink of an eye; It feels like only yesterday we were kicking the year off!

With that in mind, the end-of-year provides a great opportunity to reflect on the year that has been.

With regard to investments held personally and through superannuation, equity markets as a whole have provided very strong returns for the calendar year, with the Australian All Ordinaries returning 21.46% from the 1st of Jan to Yesterday (9th December), and the US S&P500 returning 25.29% throughout the same period.

2019 was a fantastic year to be invested in a diversified manner, with the aim of capturing market return.

We have also seen some great success stories from working hands-on with many different clients to get on top of their budgets and savings plans and creating strong behaviours that will put them in great financial shape for 2020 and beyond, which has been terrific to see!

On a personal note, 2019 has been an exciting one for me with the launch of Schmarr Financial Group and a change of Licensee. These changes have, and will continue to, enhance my ability to better service my clients, both new and existing in the months and years ahead.

As one year ends, the planning for another begins and with 2020 just around the corner, one thing that I am working on is a few different concepts and ideas that will aim to enhance your personal saving in 2020 – the first of these will come in the form of ‘Frugal February’ – whereby Myself (and anyone that wants to join) will aim to live as frugally as possible for the month of February, to see how much we can save – this could be anything from riding a bike to work, buying your groceries using the catalogues or scabbing a feed with friends or family.

I will be documenting my ‘frugality’ each day on our Instagram page, so if you don’t already follow us, head to  @schmarrfinancialgroup so you can stay updated on everything frugal I get up to in the month of February.

If you are wanting to kick-start your year with a challenge yourself, why not join me on getting frugal this February. Let me know if you are going to give it a crack so I can touch base with you throughout the month and see how it is going for you! I will provide a bit more information on this in the lead-up throughout January.

On a ‘housekeeping’ note; the office will be closing for the Christmas break on the 20th of December and I will be back on deck on the 13th of January. That said, if you have anything urgent that pops up during that time, please shoot me an email as I will be checking these daily, and I will get back to you as soon as possible.

Finally, I would like to take this chance to sincerely thank you for your support throughout 2019. It has been a fantastic year on so many levels and I can’t wait to do it all again bigger and better in 2020.

I hope you and your family have a Merry Christmas and a Safe and Happy New Year and I look forward to continuing to work with you to achieve your goals in 2020 and beyond.

Best wishes,
